government staff and Kavik-AXYS.
Personnel
Frank Hansen, President
B.Sc. (Eng.), P.Eng.
Born in Aklavik, NT, Mr. Hansen is President of Kavik-AXYS Inc. and
a professional engineer. He also is the principal shareholder of Kavik
Group of Companies (specific companies listed at right under See
Also).
His past business interests included partnerships
in an airline
charter
company and
a real
estate
holding company,
and ownership
of a bulk
petroleum
contracting business.
Mr. Hansen is extremely well connected in
the community and has ties with the Inuvialuit infrastructure. He
is currently on the boards of Northwestel Inc. and the Inuvialuit Investment
Corporation.
He is past chairman of the Circle of Aboriginal Business Leaders for
the
Bank
of
Montreal,
past
chairman of the board of Norterra Inc., past chairman of the board
of Inuvialuit Development Corporation, past director and vice-chairman
of the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation, past chairman of the board
of
the Inuvialuit Communications Society and served several terms
as a Councilor for the Town of Inuvik.
Mr. Hansen was a keynote speaker for a conference
on northern
people and hydrocarbon developments, speaking on the Inuvialuit
approach to hydrocarbon development in the Beaufort Sea. Last year,
Mr. Hansen
assisted Michael Fabijan in completion of the Shell Canada Limited
wastewater-sampling
program through Western Geco.
Michael Fabijan, Vice-President
Mr. Fabijan is Vice-President and General Manager of Kavik-AXYS Inc.
With over 22 years of experience in the environmental and public consultation
fields
in
the
Arctic, Yukon, Northwest Territories, British Columbia
and Ontario, he has been working in the Arctic since 1979, and with
the Inuvialuit since 1987. Mr. Fabijan has conducted biological programs
for the Department
of Fisheries and Oceans as well as for many consulting/research companies.
In addition, he has been a facilitator for many groups including the
Wildlife Management Advisory Council (North Slope), Inuvialuit Settlement
Region
community conservation plan workshop, and the Holman community conservation
plan.
Mr. Fabijan previously held positions as manager and coordinator of
the Inuvialuit Harvest Study (1986–1996),
marine biologist, diver, and fisheries biologist. He is currently
the committee Chair for the Inuvik Ducks Unlimited and past Chair
and director of the board for the Great Northern Arts
Festival.
Jeff Green, Director
M.Sc., R.P.Bio.
Mr. Green is a senior Vice-President of AXYS Environmental Consulting
and a Director of Kavik-AXYS with over 25 years of consulting experience,
many of which have involved field research and projects in northern
Canada, Alaska and
Russia.
His work for the past two decades has
focused on the assessment and management of industrial
effects; development of frameworks for screening, assessment
and management of cumulative effects; training courses for
northerners in environmental assessment; community consultation and
involvement; and facilitation of community-based and
technical workshops. He has appeared as an expert witness
before federal and territorial regulatory bodies.
Nick Poushinsky, Business Unit Leader (AXYS Environmental Consulting)
Ph.D.
Nick Poushinsky is a Business Unit leader
based at our Sidney, BC office. A former 15-year resident of Canada's
north, Dr.
Poushinsky has managed environmental impact assessments, led the socio-economic
impact
assessment component of numerous proposed developments, overseen successful
public/community consultation
programs, and negotiated Impact and Benefits Agreements
between resource developers and First Nations in the
Canadian north. In addition to many years providing consulting services
in the north, Nick served as Deputy Minister of Economic Development
and Mines and as Deputy Minister of Health and Social Services in the
Yukon.
